Aquapura Douro Valley – Portugal

The Douro Valley, one of the most protected regions of Portugal, abounds in magnificent valleys, terraced cliffs and deep valleys through which the river meanders.

Aquapura Douro Valley is a 19th Quinta that has been converted into a contemporary, luxurious hotel. Situated within the Port wine vineyards, this secluded hideaway is surrounded by stunning natural scenery. Its magnificent setting on the South bank of the Douro River gives it an exclusive and dramatic atmosphere.

All Aquapura’s 70 rooms and suites are beautifully-appointed and overlook the Douro River, the manor-house cloisters, the woodlands, or the valley and vineyards. With their outstanding contemporary layout and stunning views of the river, the River Rooms are especially appealing. The Presidential Suite is the ultimate experience of the resort for guests’ holistic well-being, with private access from the street and a stone historic balcony overlooking the entire property. Within the woodland grounds, 21 private villas can be found, all with private plunge pools and sunbathing decks.

The harmony was achieved from the combination of contemporary European design concepts with Asian materials, the blend of simple and modern furniture with organic natural pieces, and the beautiful play of earthy ochre colours with the tones inspired from the surrounding landscape and the intense colours of the wine grapes.

Aquapura’s Spa covers 2,200 sqm and includes an indoor hydrotherapy pool with heated water beds, an herbal bath, a panoramic sauna, a laconium and a steam room. Exquisite and modern, only natural and organic products are used. In a sophisticated environment, guests can enjoy treatments based on ancient Asian traditions or oxygen-based treatments, while feeling the fresh valley breeze. Last but not least, the outside heated pool offers magnificent views and plenty of sunshine.

The two restaurants Vale Abraão and Almapura offer an exceptional and extensive wine list to accompany excellent Portuguese flavours and aromas. Guests can choose from a selection of over 200 wines, 15 champagnes and 20 bottled waters from all over the world.

Cruises along the river are undeniably a good way to discover the outstanding beauty of the Douro Region that inspired the hotel’s architects. But tasting vintage Ports will help you understand why Douro Region is one of the oldest historic winemaking regions in the world…
