Din Tai Fung – Delicate Dumplings

I will always remember my first dinner at Din Tai Fung. My fiancé (who now is husband) and I were living in Taiwan at that time, and a friend of us took us to Taipei, saying we were about to eat the best dumplings on Earth. Located in the busy Zhong Xiao commercial area, Din Tai Fund is not a restaurant, but an institution. And as a matter of fact, in 1993, the restaurant appeared in The New York Times as one of the world’s top 10 restaurants.

The place itself has a very simple decoration. It is bright, clean and permanently bustling (expect to wait). The interesting feature is the glassed-in kitchen that permits views of the team preparing the delicious little bouchées. Dumplings are served directly into the bamboo steamer, per 6 or 10 pieces. And indeed, our friend was telling the truth… their small, delicate steamed dumplings are literally to die for. The steamed pork dumplings are particularly perfect, with a broth that burst in your mouth as you bite into them. Absolutely delicious, very juicy and gorgeously crafted… and certainly not to be missed!

Outside its native Taiwan, Din Tai Fung also has its restaurant chains in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States.
