One Royal Circus – Edinburgh

One Royal Circus in Edinburgh is appearing as a most desirable home away from home. This luxury bed and breakfast lies in a quiet, elegant Georgian grand crescent of renowned architectural beauty designed by the most celebrated of Edinburgh’s classical architects, William Playfair.

The townhouse is a complete 1823 Georgian townhouse with a magnificent salon overlooking the charming Royal Circus Gardens. The collection of Italian and French posters from the 1950s is somehow to be noticed, as well as the remarkable domed roof.

One Royal Circus has only six bedrooms, each with its own dressing area and bathroom. The rooms are designed to please even the most demanding traveller, and feature fine Frette linens, delightful Arran Aromatics amenities and “geek chic” iPod stations.

There is no room service or bar at One Royal Circus but guests are encouraged to bring there own and use the fridge to chill there favourite tipple. The French-style lounge with its baby grand piano is the perfect venue for sipping a glass of white wine before going out for dinner (try one of Leith’s seafood restaurants). Coffee connoisseurs will be delighted to find Nespresso machines available with a wide selection of complimentary capsules to choose from.

The owners Mike and Susan successfully retained the original feel of this beautiful townhouse, and managed to insert contemporary touches in a sophisticated and delicate manner. Georgian classical elements sit by more modern pieces in a way that does not feel like an ostentatious addition.

My husband and I chose One Royal Circus for our Scottish honeymoon and had a wonderful time. Forbes Magazine called it Edinburgh’s most closely-guarded secret. JK Rowling, Jimmy Carr, Christina Aguilera and Ewan McGregor have already been guests of Number One. Just in case you need more proof that you should stay there…
